Working with
clay is a great business, but there is a lot to do!
We use
a clay body that is first fired in an electric kiln up to 2160
degrees Fahrenheit, making it strong enough for everyday use.
Each unique design is drawn onto the clay body and hand painted
using coloured glazes - a very time-consuming process. The
pieces are dipped into a lead-free clear glaze and fired again
up to 1940 degrees.
Then...comes the waiting! After
10
hours or so the kiln can be
opened to lots of "oohs, aahs" and sometimes
"oops!"
Although our pottery may be
placed in the microwave or the dishwasher, we recommend that you
hand-wash it to preserve the finish.
